Hey! I’m Madison!
I grew up just outside of the “Blue Line” of the Adirondack Park in New York, so hiking has been a passion of mine since I was little. In the summers, I’d visit my grandparents’ summer home in Maine, and I’d kayak non-stop.
Several years ago, I became more involved in the outdoor community and began hiking regularly, usually 3 times a week. I became part of countless hiking forums and groups on social media. Later, I picked up a job at an outdoor retailer, where I was lucky enough to meet brand representatives and connect with mountain guides. This job allowed me to move into the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks, where I only became more active in the outdoors!
All of this has caused me to learn a lot, and connect with a ton of people. I’ve been to events and trainings, and I’ve taught at events and trainings. I’ve guided friends into the mountains, and I’ve been guided by others who are more experienced than me. I frequently see people on the forums asking questions, only to receive feedback with polar opposite answers (some of which are false or even dangerous), or they are called out for not knowing simple things that they were never taught.
Expedition Alpine was my idea to combat this. I wanted a place where people could come to learn, and be met with a supportive community to help. I will regularly post trip reports, gear reviews, and how-tos, as well as news stories related to our public lands. It is my promise to you that I will keep these articles as factual as possible, and try to reduce any biases (if I talk about the pros, I’ll also talk about the cons). In the future, I hope to offer courses, both in person and online, for important backcountry and survival skills. Because I am part of a military family, I will move frequently and the locations for my content will constantly be changing.
